Design

Flip 4 carries signature cylindrical shape from its predecessors and weighs nearly 500g. JBL Flip 4 has got lots of improvements in terms of design department it’s been bigger and got some hardware changes also. The bass radiators have placed either side of the devices. JBL Flip 4 also consists of 4 buttons one of them for Bluetooth pairing and another three are for playback and volume controls.

On the other side, we can see the power button along with JBL Connect+ both are backlit illuminated, besides of these buttons there is micro USB charging port with 3.5mm AUX input these two are hidden under a rubber flap. There are five LED dots which acts as battery level indicators.

We should mention that how good it’s waterproofing is because it comes with an IPX7 rating. The driver unit is covered by strong fabric coating by which it can go up to 1 Meter deep under water for about 30 minutes. The fun part is that it also plays music under water.

Features

It packs a 3000mAh battery which can last about 12 Hours on a single charge according to the company, but we can expect around 10-11 hours of battery life when listening to music in 80-90 % volume levels. JBL Flip 4 has an inbuilt microphone by which you can take calls when connected to a device. The speaker also has one feature by which we can connect to two devices at a time. It comes with two 40mm drivers unite which produce good audio. Either side of the speaker we will find two passive radiators which look good but we should also concerned that they may get damaged easily because they exposed to the outside environment.

With the help of JBL connect+ app, we can easily operate the speakers and also in party mode, we can connect multiple JBL speakers at a time to amplify the music. We can connect nearly 100 devices at a time using this app, it is available for both Android and IOS. By using this app you can do lots of things like you can name your speaker and also you can assign a function to the playback button to access google assistant / Siri.

Sound

Find out the sound performance of flip 4 here on our JBL Flip 4 Review. The audio quality is pretty decent for the price, but we can observe a significant change in sound from song to song. The bass is punchy can be satisfactory for bass lovers, there is also better sounding alternatives. The vocals can be heard clearly even the bass is playing in the background. The outdoor performance also good when compared to other brand speakers. We don’t get many distortions at higher volumes which is a pretty good thing.

Battery

Most of the people take these Bluetooth speakers to small parties and weekend camping trips for that battery is a big concern. Flip 4 packs 3000mAh battery which is not sufficient for most of those cases. If you listen to music at maximum volume battery drains within 4 hours, it is suggested to listen to music at 75-85% of volumes to get good battery life. It takes 1 Hour 40 Minutes approximately to fully charge the battery.

Pros

  • Good and compact design
  • Rugged nature
  • IPX7 Rating

Cons

  • Exposed radiators
  • Better options in less price
